How the day breaks down

Your Proposal, by moment.

Every proposal breaks down into the same handful of moments — here’s what’s typically booked for each one.

  1. Setting the Scene

Music or ambiance that makes the location feel intentional, not random.

    • Solo Musician
    • Acoustic Duo / Group

    Typical coverage: 30–60 minutes

  2. The Moment

The proposal itself, captured without being obvious about it.

    • Photographer
    • Videographer

Typical coverage: the moment itself, plus a buffer either side

  3. The Celebration

Champagne and a toast with the people who were in on it.

    • Bartender
    • MC / Event Host

    Typical coverage: 1–2 hours

  4. The After-Party

For couples who turn the moment into a full celebration afterward.

    • DJ
    • Live Band
    • Bartender

    Typical coverage: 2–4 hours

Who does what for a proposal?

A short list covers most proposals. Here's what each role actually does, what's usually included, and what to ask before you book.

Photographer

Best for: Discreetly capturing the moment itself, plus portraits after

The one booking almost every couple wants. Talk through positioning in advance so the photographer can stay unnoticed until the moment happens, then confirm a real delivery date.

Often includes

  • Coverage of the moment plus a portrait session after
  • Edited digital gallery

Ask about

  • How they'll position themselves to stay unnoticed
  • Delivery date
  • A backup plan if timing shifts

Typical planning range

$400 – $1,500

Videographer

Best for: Video of the actual moment, not just photos

For couples who want the moment on video — the reaction is usually what people watch back the most. Often booked alongside a photographer rather than instead of one.

Often includes

  • Video coverage of the moment
  • A short edited clip

Ask about

  • Whether they can also shoot stills
  • Delivery timeline

Typical planning range

$500 – $1,800

Musician

Best for: Live music to set the scene without being loud about it

A guitarist, vocalist or string player for the lead-up — the kind of ambient touch that makes a spot feel chosen rather than convenient.

Often includes

  • A short live set
  • Own amplification for small settings

Ask about

  • Specific song requests
  • Whether they can time a set to a cue

Typical planning range

$250 – $600

Browse musicians

Bartender

Best for: A toast and drinks ready right after the yes

For couples celebrating with a small group immediately after — a bartender ready to pour the moment it happens rather than scrambling for glasses.

Often includes

  • Service for the booked window
  • Basic bar tools

Ask about

  • Whether champagne and glassware are yours to supply

Typical planning range

$200 – $500

DJ (After-Party)

Best for: For couples who turn the moment into a full celebration

For proposals that roll straight into a planned celebration with a wider group of friends and family.

Often includes

  • Sound for the room
  • MC duties

Ask about

  • Timing around the moment itself
  • Overtime rates

Typical planning range

$500 – $1,200

Know the price

No back-and-forth before you even know what it costs. Pricing shows upfront.

Talk through positioning and discretion directly with the photographer, not through a booking form.

Photographer, musician and any after-party bookings live under the same event, in one place.

Payment protection

Payments and completion are handled through Vynue rather than an informal deposit.

Proposal photography FAQ

How do we keep it a surprise from the photographer being there?

Talk through positioning in advance — most proposal photographers are experienced at staying at a distance, using longer lenses, or posing as a stranger nearby until the moment happens.

How far in advance should we book?

Two to four weeks is usually enough, though popular photographers at sought-after locations can book up faster on weekends.

Can one person shoot both photo and video?

Sometimes, though a single moment is easier to capture fully with a dedicated shooter for each. Ask directly what one photographer can realistically cover.

What if the proposal timing changes at the last minute?

Agree a backup window when you book. Most proposal photographers build in some flexibility, but confirm it rather than assuming.

How soon will we get the photos?

A handful of preview images often arrive within a day or two; a full edited gallery typically takes one to two weeks.

What happens if talent cancels?

You're refunded in full regardless of their cancellation policy, and any processing fee is charged to them, not you.
