What qualifies for a refund after an event?

The difference between a material service failure that can qualify for a refund, and ordinary dissatisfaction that belongs in a review instead.

Last updated

Not every complaint about how an event went qualifies for a refund. Vynue draws a line between an actual failure to deliver what was booked, and simply not loving how the night turned out.

Material failure — this can qualify for a refund

These are objective: either it happened, or it didn't, independent of taste.

  • No-show. The partner or venue never showed up.
  • Refused to perform. They showed up but refused to do what was booked.
  • Materially late or left early. Not "started five minutes behind schedule" — a delay or early departure that meaningfully cut into the booked time.
  • Hours shortfall. You booked a set number of hours and received meaningfully fewer.
  • Service mismatch. What was delivered doesn't match what was booked (a different act, a different format, a different scope).
  • Missing required personnel or equipment. Something the listing said was included wasn't there.
  • Other substantial failure to perform as agreed.

If your report describes one of these, it goes through the dispute process and can result in a full or partial refund.

Subjective dissatisfaction — this belongs in a review, not a refund

The partner or venue showed up and did what was booked, but you didn't enjoy it as much as you hoped:

  • You didn't like their music selection or style
  • Their personality wasn't a fit for your group
  • The crowd's reaction wasn't what you expected
  • General aesthetic preference — it just wasn't your taste

None of this is a service failure. It's exactly what reviews exist for — public, first-hand feedback that helps the next client decide, rather than a payment dispute. Reporting "I didn't love their vibe" as a problem after the event happened as agreed generally will not qualify for a refund.

When it's mixed

Sometimes a report has both — a real material issue and a taste complaint layered on top. Vynue looks at the facts and resolves based on whatever material failure is actually established, not the dissatisfaction wrapped around it.
